Welcome to my academic website! I am Asit Pal, a graduate student at New York University specializing in neuroscience working with Prof. Stefano Martiniani. My research focuses on understanding the neural mechanisms underlying cognitive functions and disorders, with a particular emphasis on the visual system and attention.
I am currently working on a hierarchical neural field model of the visual system that incorporates reciprocal connections between different areas. This model aims to shed light on how attention modulates various aspects of visual processing, including contrast response functions, inter-areal communication, and coherence between brain regions. Importantly, my aim is to develop a mean field rate model that can make experimentally testable predictions about neural mechanisms, thereby complementing empirical neuroscience.
I got my master's in Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. I worked with Prof. Nisanth Nair on developing algorithms for Enhanced Sampling Method TASS. I worked as a research assistant at TIFR Hyderabad under Prof. Jagannath Mondal on finding collective variables for the drug-binding problem using Deep Learning methods like Autoencoder, Variational-Autoencoder, and Generative Adversarial Network.
